Cranial Sacral

What is Cranial Sacral?

CST is a gentle form of bodywork which is based on the cerebrospinal fluid, connective tissues of the whole body and their pumping and self adjusting effects on the body. This science of the body has been well researched and documented by its present day founder, Dr. John Upledger. He found the movements in the skull bones – which contrary to popular belief – are not completely fused but rather are a dynamic system which have a small amount of movement and a huge effect on the brain and connective tissues ( meninges in the brain and the network of connective tissue throughout the body ) which in normal function allow a healthy body to thrive. When there is obstruction or these connective tissues are abnormally stressed or strained, from trauma, the birth process, or postural habits, the tightening / imbalance can cause abnormal body function, pain or restricted movements.

In a typical CST treatment, the practitioner gently palpates the skull, spine and limbs to feel the natural pulsing of the cerebrospinal fluid/inherent body movements and detect imbalance or lack of proper movement. With detecting these abnormal areas, it is possible to make minor adjustments to free blockages and allow proper function and movement to be restored, thereby restoring healthy body function and pain or symptom relief.

CST is used for migraines, neck and back pain, and chronic conditions that don’t respond well to conventional treatments or just for a relaxing meditative type treatment.
